DocsGetting started
Your first design
Start from the Home screen, draw a board, save it as a .de file and see it in Preview.
1Start from Home
Home opens when the app starts. It lists your recent files as a grid or a list and offers New file, Open file, Templates, Design systems and Scene templates.
The prompt box at the top starts a design from a sentence. Pick what you are making (Landing page, Mobile app, Web app, Slides, Dashboard or Something else) and a size (Desktop, Tablet, Mobile or Slides), then describe it. The built-in agent draws it on a new canvas.
The import cards below it open a Figma file, a web page, a screenshot to recreate or a pen.dev file. Cmd+N makes a blank file while Home is showing.
2Draw a board
- Press
Ffor the Frame tool and drag on the canvas. A top-level frame is a board: a screen, a page section or a slide. - Press
R,OorTto add a rectangle, an ellipse or text inside it. - Select a layer and edit its size, fill, stroke and effects in the panel on the right.
- Turn on auto layout for the board to stack its children with a gap and padding.
3Save it
Cmd+S saves a .de file. It is plain JSON, so it diffs well in git and agents can read it. Images go in a sibling <name>.assets/ folder by default; agents can also save a single file with every image embedded.
There is no autosave. Closing a window with changes asks whether to save them.
4Preview it
Press Cmd+P to open Preview. Choose Phone, Desktop or Canvas at the top. Boards marked as screens behave like pages of a website, with an address bar and back and forward.
5Start from a template instead
File, New from Template opens the built-in scene templates: cards, comparisons, slides, infographics, tutorials and carousels. Save any document as your own template with File, Save as Template.
The Prompt Center holds ready prompts for starter screens, mobile apps, web pages, dashboards, components and edits. Save the prompts you reuse under Mine.
